There are a few things to check before we get started. First, make sure you have the required software. The examples included in this tutorial are intended to be guides for you to follow when building your own applications. You can run these examples and observe the behavior described. When you write your own applications and run them against servers that you or others have set up, the behavior you observe might be dramatically different. A section in this lesson explains what to expect from these examples.
The last part of this lesson details the programmatic setup you need to perform, including how to create an initial context and how to handle the exceptions that JNDI methods can throw.
